What do I need to bring if I’m going to pay with cash?

We’re one of the few agencies that allow you to rent a car with cash. We require proof of local (Sonoma County, California) residence in the form of a utility bill (PG&E or phone bill). These documents must be presented at the counter when you’re renting. The name and address must exactly match those on your driver’s license. A deposit amount of $200 is required if you’re paying with cash or with a debit card and is refundable once you return the vehicle. We also run a check on your driver’s license; you will need to pay six dollars to cover that cost.

How does a long-term car rental work?

Our long-term plan requires a minimum rental commitment of three months to qualify for the low rate. The low rate does include collision damage insurance with a $1,000 deductible. However, the renter must have a personal liability policy in place during the rental period. Each month is based on a 28-day rental period. Payment of one month’s rent must be made in full at the time of pickup. A deposit amount equal to one month’s rent will also be collected at this time. This deposit amount shall be applied as a credit to your third month. Premature termination of this agreement will result in a substantial rate increase. Other restrictions may apply.

When do I pay for my rental?

You pay for your Santa Rosa car rental when you pick it up. Please refer to our policies for more detailed information regarding payment options.

What information do I need to have with me to pick up my rental?

When you arrive you will need to show a valid driver’s license, along with an acceptable credit card. Customers using a cash deposit must bring the documents mentioned above. You also must present proof of liability insurance.

What happens in the event of a mechanical problem?

Can I keep my rental for longer than the contract states?

If you would like to keep the vehicle longer than what is stated in our agreement, you must contact Smith’s Rent-A-Car for any necessary authorizations and payment changes.

How old do I have to be to rent a vehicle?

We rent to people 21 years and older. An additional daily charge of $10 will be incurred for renters between the ages of 21 and 24.

Can I reserve a specific make, model, or color of vehicle?

No. We are unable to guarantee a specific make, model, or color when you make your reservation. However, we do guarantee that the class (size) of your car rental, van rental, SUV rental, truck rental, or other vehicle will be available.

How do I add an additional driver to my reservation?

An additional authorized driver must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, and meet all other renter requirements. For more detailed information, contact our reservations desk.

Do you sell any of your fleet?

Yes, we do sell used cars and other vehicles from our fleet. Contact us and we can let you know what makes, models, and brands we have available.

Do you rent U-Hauls?

Yes! We have a fleet of U-Haul rentals to assist you with all of your needs. We have a wide selection of available rentals, and if we don’t have what you are looking for, we can find it elsewhere for you.
